European Meeting of Complementary Local Currencies

October 27–28, 2025 in Bordeaux

Context

Since 2010, the Mouvement Sol and the Network of Local Authorities Committed to a Solidarity Economy have been cooperating to organize the National Meetings: Local Authorities – Local Currencies. These meetings aim to improve collaboration between local authorities and organizations in charge of local currencies (also known as community or social currencies), in order to boost the local economy and strengthen a just transition within the territories.

For several years now, we have felt the need to expand this event to a European scale. Europe is full of monetary initiatives, yet there is currently no gathering that brings together these citizen-led collectives and the local authorities they cooperate with, in order to sit at the same table and concretely discuss the future of local currencies at the European level.

The European Local Currencies Meeting is therefore conceived in this spirit of mutual recognition and horizontal organization among the actors of local monetary development.

The event is part of the Bordeaux GSEF 2025 Forum, organized for the first time in France and in Bordeaux, which also holds the title of World Capital of the Social and Solidarity Economy.
